Hello,

a friend get this pendokok by a lot of keris and keris parts. Since we both have never seen a pendokok like this I want to ask you if you know from where this one orginate. The pictures are a little bit blurred, sorry for this.

Thank you in advance,

Detlef

No one? :)

asomotif 8th March 2012 10:13 PM

Hello Detlef,

I think no-one on the forum knows where this one originates.
Probably only the maker knows. And with my little knowledge I think the maker is probably not indonesian.

Best regards,
Willem

I think perhaps Marco is saying that he is happy he hasn't seen one like this before and would probably rather not again. Where ever this came from i don't personally find it to be all that attractive either... :)

Agree David, but this wasn't the question. That it isn't a great masterpiece of art I know! :D But who ever have worked it spend some time to do it and it look better in natural. Heavy item and maybe gilded.
My friend was interested from where it coming, that was all.

Regards,

Detlef

Yes, understand! I think it depends on the quality of the camera from my friend, he send me some new ones but not really better. :)

A. G. Maisey 12th March 2012 08:34 PM

Personal taste is a funny thing.

For instance, I find Angelina Jolie repulsive, and possibly my favourite female movie star is Whoopi Goldberg. Like I said:- peculiar.

I tend to look for, and to value qualities that indicate something is going on beneath the surface, and that is what I can see in this pendongkok.

I neither particularly like, nor dislike this item under discussion, but when I consider the work that was involved in producing it, and the unique nature of its design, I must admit that I'm pretty impressed.

Probably a lot of people didn't much like this particular design, or we would be more familiar with it, as there would be more of them around.

kronckew 12th March 2012 08:45 PM

i also think ol' blubber lips AJ is ugly. the latest fad of showing her legs confirms my opinion - she's also got ugly legs. and she ain't the spring chicken she likes to think she is.

whoopi ain't bad. her personality shows thru. i'd prefer going out with her to AJ.

i'd like to see this item on an appropriate blade & grip, maybe it's personality will shine thru.

David 12th March 2012 09:49 PM

Now gentlemen, let's try to say on topic...especially if you are going to go dissin' my girl AJ... ;) :D

Sajen 12th March 2012 09:58 PM

Sorry David,

I am the third one who find AJ repulsive! ;) :D

Will ask my friend if he can take pictures with different keris sarungs, maybe Malay, Bugis and Sumatra to get an other impression!

Regards,

Detlef

Thank you for the better picture.

I still think this is rather crudly made. It requires some workmanship, but it still feels like someone took the easy way to make a pendokok.

Would like to see pcitures of this pendokok on a keris.

I would also like some pictures of AJ's other leg. just for comparisson... :p ;)

David 13th March 2012 12:21 AM

Gentlemen...you are treading on thin ice with the Angelina jokes. I hope to make her my warrior princess one day! :D

Here some pictures like promised. In my opinion in most instances not really matching (hilt and sarung) but good enough to get an impression.
BTW, I have chosen my best match regarding where the pendokok is best matching.

asomotif 14th March 2012 11:59 PM

Wow, Detlef. I envy you for your keris collection

But I still do not envy you for this pendokok :D ;)

Especially on the wonderfull keris you put on display here, this pendokok stand out with its poor craftmanship. definately not my style of pendokok.

Best regards,
Willem

Hi Jose,

most likely not a sultan's keris but one from a person of wealth, oversheath is gilded, not pure gold. Here some pictures from the keris in original state.

Detlef
