A Tenegre, (or bolo or sundang) for comment

A Philippine sword. 25 1/2" overall length, 1 lb. 10 oz in weight. Pattern welded blade is beveled on one side only. The flat side of the blade has a higher carbon content piece of steel forge welded to it. The edge of the blade would always have some of this, even after sharpening. Hilt is wood with brass ferrules front and back. Iron or steel forged guard. Very well made overall. Tip had some damaged that required some hammer and file work. The first 2" of the tip is not as hard as the rest. Bent is better than broken maybe?
Which part of the PI do you think it's from, Negros?

Thanks for looking,
Steve

Nice find!
It looks like a great sword to fight with.
Why Negros? My hunch is Luzon.
It's a pity that several of the Filipino blade specialists aren't around on this list anymore. :(

The only reason that I guessed Negros was that another piece I have, with a similar blade shape, was attributed to Negros by other forum members. But I really have no clue.

Thanks,
steve

Edit: I reread the original thread http://www.vikingsword.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002539.html
and my memory was faulty about the origin of my other sword. Duh.

Negros also fought in the PI-American War and I would guess that this piece might have belonged to an officer from Negros.

Nice puppy!

What else, except the point, indicates Negros?

Michael
