Moro Taming's

I acquired 2 tamings recently.
The first one, one of the handhold on the reverse side is missing. It would be nice to restore the one with the faded paint. It's a big project and probably not well advised. Replacing the finial wouldn't be such a big problem.
I don't know if the cracks are age or battle related. If it could only talk.

The second one is carved throughout the entire front. A lot of work was involved creating this one. It's super heavy, probably not meant for battle. This one could be from Sulu.

Enjoy the photos.

The carved one is huge. Here's a photo in comparison to it's 21 inch cousin.
The other one with the missing finial measures at 32 inches in diameter, 2 inches in diameter less that the carved one.

I am always so happy to see examples of these just because they are so darn rare. Thanks for the sharing.

Any way of generally dating the origins of these??? I can't imagine that they would be anything other than pre-1920.

wow, that's crazy! i like both of them, but the carved one is just too good. i love how even the handle is carved. you reckon this is the similar type that's used in those shield dances?
on the first one, it's probably age crack, bro, unless you could see any distinct hack marks around the cracks.

nice catch!!!

I was researching carved taming's and all I found so far were dated as 1900's
And we're collected in Jolo. Vague on the dating.

Could have been used to dance with, pretty heavy though.
