Once upon a time, this beautiful item was a covered container until some idiot many years ago decided that it would be a great idea to put a pocket watch inside it so he added a hinge and placed a hole in it for the wind-up stem.
It is still a wonderful item to me, so I had to have it with all of its defects. It tests out to a high grade of silver.
Could it be Turkish, Tibetan or Persian? Any guesses would be appreciated!

I do not know where this is from, but the decoration in the center is reminiscent of the decoration on the hilts of yataghans from Focha - like the one in my avatar.
