The text is still around, but the pictures are lost.
Any chance of putting them back . Kind of .. permanently? :-)

I too would like to view this thread...I went searching through restoration threads after Michael posted the twistcore Moro Kris and found there are quite a few restoration threads that were never followed through or old images and links were missing or broken...

Now that you have a cross guard Ariel, I look forward to what you are going to reveal in time ;-)

Kilij restoration

Hi all. It took me some time to dig in our photos archive to find it but here it is:

We had in our inventory a good Ottoman Kilij sword with very nice pattern welded blade.

Unfortunately the horn grips suffered considerable damage. The horn distorted and the grips badly cracked.

At the request of the buyer we took the challenge of restoring the grip, documenting every step of the work so hopefully others could benefit and be helped with it. It is fully described in the series of photos below.

Many thanks!
I am sure it will be a treasured guide for a lot of people here.
Moderators, can it become a "sticky"?

Gavin Nugent 19th March 2010 01:04 PM

I second the motion Moderators

I second the sticky request moderators, though rather than this Kilij specific thread being the sticky, can there be a general restoration guide thread created where all images and links can be shared.

Artzi, I have a question: picture #14 says : "crossguard was secured in place".
How was it done? Leather thong and epoxy between the crossguard and the blade, epoxy between the crossguard and the cheeks or some other way?
