American Marked Bavarian 1826 Hilt Straight Blade
 

Here is a bit of a whatzit marked by Horstmann&Co. New York. 1830s? 1840s?

With 34" of blade, it seems long if infantry but it is quite light at less than two pounds. The blade is 1 1/4" wide at the hilt. The seller's pictures are better than mine and my back quit after a few shots but here are some of his (Stephan Juan) and some in the back here with a mounted artillery sabre.

Thoughts? Similar siblings? Pcay has a Spanish bladed one listed these days and maybe what had peaked my own interest. This one showed up recently and fits in my early American militia bracket.

Would the continent regard it as a pallasch or degen? Several attached here, in moderate size.

I have untangled the wire wrap a bit and am tightening that up. It looks like part of that may have been an old repair. The leather washer was certainly added/replaced at some point. I find no easily seen blade maker on the ricasso under the langets.

Horstmann and family have quite a history. Certainly by the time they bought up Widmann's shop stuff they were deling with Weyersburg (as had Widmann) but I have no certainty as to this one.
