Luzon Dagger

The latest addition to my collection. Not as rare by any means as a lot of the pieces being shown recently on the forum but this crossover of styles is what interests me the most. Most likely from Luzon. Late 19th or early 20th century. The total length of this is 13 inches. Horn hilt with some of the original wire and a diamond cross-section blade. Guard and fittings are brass while the dagger shows Spanish influence like most of the pieces that I collect. I have an original scabbard that I picked up some time ago that I am hoping will fit this when it arrives. This is the only decent picture that I have at this time. Comments are always welcome.

Oh yes, definitely Luzon, perhaps Katipunan officer's, turn of the 20th century or earlier. Nice piece. Would you post other pictures of it please? :D

Hi Jose,
I will be quite happy to post more pictures of this as soon as it arrives. I'm still unhappy with myself for not being able to pickup the one you offered up for sale. :( Win some lose some I guess.

Here are a few pictures after replacing the missing brass wire according to what was left of the original wire wrapping. The fittings are brass with a steel butt plate with either a red brass or copper bead. I have not yet cleaned the dagger, still trying to decide if I should or not.

Blade length 9-3/8"
Blade width at hilt 1"
Blade thickness at hilt 1/4"
Total length 13-3/4"

Thank you Steve. I have a really nice period leather sheath that I was hoping this dagger would fit but alas it is for a 9" blade were this blade is 9-3/4". I am still quite happy though and looking for more items like this. :D

Robert this is a great example of a Katipunan puppy! Very nice and the brass work appears complete around the hilt and in excellent shape. :) Congatulations! :D

Hi Jose, Thank you for your kind reply and complement on this dagger. After looking through all my boxes and drawers I have found a sheath for this of an appropriate age. It fits nicely and looks correct even though it is not the original one for this piece. You don't by chance have any spare leather sheaths laying about that you would want to part with do you? :D

Not anymore, but I think I can make one for you (email me if interested :D ).
