German Knife, antique? cSc?
 

Just Got this beauty at an antique store for an amazing 10$
It feels like something of great quality.
little over 15 inches.
the blade is marked CSC ,, ? No p90? ,, Germany (see photo)
in my research I find a couple pocket knives marked CSC,
I find someone mention it could stand for Carl Schlieper Cutlery

"company started in 1754 or 1798 and was based in Remscheid Germany. Products included knives, tools and straight razors. Markets included the booming tobacco and rubber plantation industry in Siam (Thailand), Malaysia, British North Borneo[3] and the Dutch East Indies. A subsidiary of the company in Solingen dealt in knives including slipjoints, automatic knives, gardener, dagger, hunt measurer, machete, bowie, razors, and kitchen knives. Various brand names have been used and 22 patents held by the company. In the U.S. brand names have included "Fan", "Jim Bowie" and "El Gallo" and, after World War II, the "eye brand". In 1989 Schlieper merged with Remscheider. Carl Schlieper was liquidated in bankruptcy in 1993. Production of the brand was resumed by Freidrich Olbertz in Solingen."


do i have an antique knife?
Is it rare?
is it just a chefs knife?

I recall reading Jim Bowie's brother describing his famous knife used in the sandbar fight as a "chefs knife" just like that. The clip point ones came later...

I had fun researching the sandbar fight, I remember it mentioned in the Alamo movie. also had fun researching the account of the original knife used.

I love bowies.

The odd cant is on purpose, it was said he used it edge up for belly rips.

before there was bowie knives, they were called butcher knives, and in essence were just big knives, repurposed blades and forged ones..
here is something I recently picked up and research turned out to be very interesting, the maker went on to make bowie knives, and then famous gun knives. i believe this dates to like 1840, and that this knife has much in similar with the bowies he went on to make. this is a meat carving knife, and I can easily envision at least three ways to convert this into a Bowie.
