Hi,
A friend picked up these items for me and they are coming my way soon enough. Has anyone any idea on the club the kris looks nice also but not something I collect but I will put this on the kris forum.
The previous owner taught the club was Ethiopian? Your learned knowledge is welcome. Regards ken

Yup, these are typically sold as 'war clubs', they make more money that way than a humble butter churn. Search the forum for 'Butter churn'.

'Ethiopian' butter churn.

Thanks for that information, they are gifts so I do not think I will let my Mate know it is a butter churn, The kris does look nice though.
I will have in a few weeks along with 2 imperial German Fascine Messers, a stone crossbow and a flintlock pistol so I am looking forward to the meet up as you can imagine.
Thanks for information all.

Hi,
These clubs are commonly seen in ethno shops in Addis Ababa. The seller claims they are from southern Ethiopia (which does not rule out that they are also from Somalia). I have had the opportunity to hold them - they seem too light to be a real weapon ...

Hello Ken,

Don't hold your breath for this keris: It's a so-called keris batik with the lines done by drawing them in wax onto the blade and then doing an etch. Not the worst one I've seen of these - regardless, all parts of it are low quality and not really traditional craftsmanship though, I'm afraid.

Feel free to reach out via email beforehand next time.

Regards,
Kai

As Kai has already posted, i wouldn't waste your time posting this keris like object (KLO) on the keris forum. It is one of the few keris like objects that can truly be considered a tourist souvenir. It is not truly a keris at all since it is a stock reduction blade with a fake pamor pattern. Though it might be true to suggest that no keris collection is complete without one of these fake keris, most keris collectors have absolutely no interest in them.

KLO I love that turn of phrase,
Both items are on their way to me so I will graciously take them, its a pity but that is the way it goes.

All they are going to cost is a few beers and a bite to eat so I will say nothing at all to my mate.

He turns up some great items, cant be lucky all the time.

Thanks for letting me down gently :)
Keep well

Ken

Hello everyone,
just to stay on the subject, just today I received this, and I don't know whether to place it among my African weapons or find a place for it in the kitchen... Frankly, it seems a bit heavy and elaborate to me, to be a churn, but I defer to the judgment of those who are more knowledgeable than me.
Height: 65 cm, Weight: 1100 g.
Thanks to anyone willing to give me some information.
Duccio

Maybe I found.
Indian churn...
Too bad, it's not an African weapon.
Still, it's a nice item.
