PALAWAN BADUNG

2 Attachment(s)
Hi friends,

Sharing my Palawan'on badung. The OAL is 16" with an 18-inch blade. Made from hardwood 'Ipil' tree. It features on its scabbard 3 tokay geckos. This blade was made by a local known artisan of the Palawan'on tribe in Southern Palawan. Got this piece during my visit to Puerto Princesa, Palawan last year. Will be posting additional pictures of Palawan badung, featuring other animals. Soon.:-) Enjoy.

Hi Yves:

The highlight for me of these recently made badung is the quality carving of the hilts and scabbards. The blades tend to be of variable quality and often not particularly well forged. At least that's been my experience. Would you agree?

Hello Ian,

To me, these look so "very touristy"...

... or better said aimed at foreign collectors of exotic objects. Not very traditional, more like modern carvings...
