small machete - African or Asian?

The seller thought it was African, but that handle looks a bit like a golok to me. The blade supposedly has some patterns on it but I can't make it out from the auction picture. It should arrive in a few weeks so I'll take a better picture then.

Picture of the blade could be a help already.

These are the only other pics. There's some pattern on the blade but I can't make it out... I assume the handle is horn, with a huge crack in it.

The blade motifs will reveal the exact EU origins of the reused sword.

To my eyes it looks like a timber regulation hilt with only the timber remaining...no guard, leather or wire remaining...the transformation could have happened anywhere...a post in the EU forum when better blade images are available may help your ID too.

I hadn't considered that but now that I look at the hilt shape I think you're right. The seller said it was horn but from the closeup picture it looks more like wood with some sort of black paint on it. When it arrives I'll take better pictures, assuming the patterns on the blade turn out to be interesting, and post it on the European boards. Thank you.
