Good day

I just got an Ottoman yatagan made from the second half of the 19th century,
not very exceptional, but in very good state.
The hilt with the side ears are carved from a dark brown horn,
wooden scabbard covered by leather in very good condition,
a few very small stains on the blade.
Each face of the blade has a "cartouche",
the first, my favorite translator gave me
- AMAL RAGAB either in English MADE BY RAGAB (for the 1st line)
- SA'HEB MOHAMED either in English OWNER MOHAMED (2nd line)

but the second "cartouche" is wrote in Turkish, and my translator is unable to tell me the sense :(

I just hope that if "Zifir" pass by the forum, he could be an help :D
Thank you by anticipation "Zifir" :p

Hi every body
some more details about that "yatagan"
sizes
- total length of 86 cm or 33.85 inch
- only the blade 69 cm or 27.165 inch

my knowledge in yatagan is very limited,
would be welcome if you have any information to me, as well as;
- what are the social class who wore this type of modest yatagan?
e.i.
- employees from Ottoman administration?
- any man able to afford the cost for it ?
(I saw that it's not a military model)

thank you in anticipation

Hi Dom,
I have just seen your post. This is one of the standard rhymes which I have seen several times. This is not a good translation, but it still gives the general idea in the rhyme.

Hi Zifir
Thank you very much indeed :D
tomorrow I know one, she will be very pleased to get it, as well as me :p

no comments, or some indications from you about the type of guys who was ordering, and bore this precise type of yatagan (not luxurious) ?
e.i. social class, or occupation ?
thanks again & regards :D
