Hi,
Lovely dagger, is the dot and ring motif restricted to artifacts from the same region as the dagger or is it a more universal decoration?
Regards,
Norman.

Excellent observation Norman! That circled dot decoration was something that first caught my eye also. We have discussed this particular simple geometric a number of times over the years, and I always thought it was key in weapons of Central Asia, especially Afghanistan. In discussion it was revealed that it did occur in other regions, obviously including Sudan as well. Indications were typically that the symbolism pertained to solar worship, which seems well placed in Central Asia, but unsure of its application in Sudan. Naturally solar worship was key in Egyptian religion but unclear at this point whether this symbol was used in material of that culture.

Yup,Lew its a pretty one OK :)

All the best,
Jim
