A luxury flintlock pistol

I thought you will enjoy seeing this one .

Just acquired by a local fellow collector ...

Signed F Gilbert a Strasbourg, as engraved under the pan. Fully mounted in silver, with the mark here and there; this could be that of Johann Jacob Dörffer (1755) who did other silver work for Gilbert. The lock with parts gilded, as seen in others of the kind.
This could be one of a pair, as often executed by this gun maker.

A very attractive pistol, Fernando. Congratulations to your friend. The style is mid 18th century which fits perfectly with the possible date of 1755. and almost certainly one of a pair; alas so many pairs were split up by later owners who were ignorant or needed money desperately.

Thank you Neil. He should be twice as happy, as the price was also very attractive ;).
