1947 Movie about Dayak

Thanks to Arjan for posting this on his site. I like the second movie a little better. Has some wonderful images of Hudoc masks and costumes. Also some mandau and ceremonial shields.

Arjan often has great downloads and information.

A Dutch friend (who could understand the narrator) noted the part where the young girl is grooming the orangutan is interesting.

The orangutan (meaning Man of the Forest), was not to be allowed to be kept as a pet. However, since the young girl was taking exceptional care of it, she was allowed to keep it. It had been orphaned and had no mother.

Did you notice the mandau the Hudoc dancers had under their leaf costumes?

So fascinating. Much thanks for posting this up Bill, I really appreciate it.
I'm always keen on learning more about the Malay-Indonesian cultures. :)
