Hi chaps ,
anyone an expert on chainmail?? Got this off a chap who had it off a widow whos hubby collected European arms and what I've seen its was all correct but now have this chainmail shirt, guessing its cavalry, small size 5'5" tops for wearer. bit of damage missing link around skirt, has holes either side near shoulder joints im guessing something strapped through? finer link wing collar , good weight and alot of work in this. Hoping its not a repro butif real idea of pattern , European, Indian??
Any help be wonderful.

To me this looks like butted and riveted 6-in-1 European chainmaille. Seems made of steel. Nobility usually owned chainmaille (unless it was taken off dead nobility from the battlefield).

The very wide and square topped split in the skirt makes me think it's Sudanese in origin.

Could it be a "retailored" European hauberk?

Might the split in the skirt involve leg protection on some fashion? Cavalry was mentioned; however, it seems like it might be pretty uncomfortable to wear on horseback, at least without some padding or leather beneath.
