Dagger Identification

6 Attachment(s)
Hi,
A pair of daggers have been in my family since the 1800's, apparently brought home from abroad by one of my relatives in the armed forces. There is no record of where he went, although my great aunt said they were from Japan and used for honorable suicides. To me they do not look Japanese and appear to have Islamic markings and styles on them. I thought possibly an Indonesian origin. Does anyone have any thoughts on the origin if these daggers? I intend to keep and display them, and dig up more about my family history as well.
Cheers,
Jason

Jlgayton:

I believe these daggers are from Turkey, circa 1900, and made primarily for the tourist trade.

Hi,

I will copy and paste Ian's answer and just change the country:

Very similar to some shula daggers

Hello,

Yes it's a North-African dagger similar to the shula type:

Kubur/Jigayton:

I was going off a description in Levine's book of an identical knife.
