Congrats Lew!
I wanted that one!! :D Just got home and missed it though. A very nice khodme / Bou-Saada knife. The wire wrap is very well done. I wonder if the 1941 is indeed from that period.

Nice one, Lew. This knife comes from Algeria.

Here's mine. It's quite sharp and has a thick back. The wooden handle is also decorated with wire wrap. In addition to that, some twisted copper thread has been applied to the handle. It runs lengthwise to the top of the handle.

There's also an inscription on the base of the blade. Don't know what it means, though.

here is another pair of threads on these with more info (& a photo of mine in the linky2 there ;) )

on close examination the right side of the bolster on mine has what i thought were two parallel nicks or file marks, i suspect after seeing above that they also are the remains left exposed to show it was made from a file.

Hi All

The knife arrived yesterday and is a real nice example. :D I noticed that the tip of the blade has a small cut out at the tip but I don't know why? It looks purposely done may to help it penetrate more easily?

I really think these tips are some kind of armor piercing point (soft armor ;) ).

This is probably the best khodmi I have seen, and is no doubt a status piece. It has the most intricate and decorated scabbard I have even seen on one.

The legend of the notched blade tips again resurfaces!! :) Everybody turn your hymnals (Wagner "Cut and Thrust Weapons", the Austrian section, there are 18th century swords with notched tips).
