Kampilan ?
 

During my last relocation, the grip of this micro Philipino weapon was lost.
It is part of the attached plate showing several type of Philipino weapons.
Is this micro weapon a kampilan ?
Is the grip the right one ?
I want to reproduce this very small grip.
The total blade length is 14 cm.

The handles are bone ?
I think it's someone's interpretation of a Kampilan .
Interesting, having a Jawa hilted blade as a center piece in this otherwise Philippine display . :confused:

And the "handle" of the little kampy should be fitted the other way, logically.:)

It should be a kampilan hilt, Rick may have a point that it might be an interpretation.

Rick: Yes the handles are in bones except the one at 10 o'clock, the Jawa keris in the middle and the keris Moro at 7 o'clock.
I am responsible for this strange combination (all philipino blades with one jawa keris) as when I found these blades they were all wrapped in a piece of paper. They were obviously all coming from the same source and the jawa blade and the Moro Keris had no grip. So I made these handles and the display.
Thanks for the bringing in the idea of "interpretation" of a kampilan. I think that you are right. As I have searched a similar blade but could not find one having this little bump at the end of the blade. The interpretation of the handle will give me also more freedom for the handle to be made.

Thank you Battara for the confirmation of Rick's interpretation. I think I will make a real kampilan type of handle, in wood and not in bone or Tagua nut.
Have you ever seen a kampilan hilt in Ivory ?
What do you think : dark hard wood can do the job ?

To insert the hairs in a 40 millimeter long and only 2-3 mm thick handle will be tricky. Any suggestions ?

First, dark wood would work, but bone would match the others. Just Inscribe the "hair" into the bone.

Second, here is the hilt of my ivory kampilan. They are insanely rare, but they do exist (there is also one in the PI National Museum).

Hopefully you will have enough tang to acommodate both guard and pommel .

Maybe it should be carved from 1 piece and the separation line cut in and filled with ink . :)

Your remark is a very valid one
That tang is really short but this is not a real kampilan that will be utilized. I can glue the tang inside the pommel and I think, I could even get rid of the metallic guard. Kampilans have a very special type of guard, which is very different than the one on my miniature kampilan and I will not try to reproduce it. I will follow your suggestion and carve it in one or two pieces. May be I can copy Battara's one !
