Hello dear members,

want to share this unusual badik/badek (there are a lot of other names used for this type of dagger) from Java which crossed my way lately.

The unsualness is the quiz for you! :p :D I think it's a difficult quiz, I am curious if someone will be able to solve it!

To my eye, nothing at all, it conforms to type.

I've seen more than a few of these, they all vary slightly, but overall form is the same.

Here is one I have, it was bought in Australia during the 1920's, but supposedly came from Malang in East Jawa during the period 1850-1900.

My info from Jawa during 1980's is that it is North Coast Jawa.

Yes, when I first saw it by pictures I also don't understand. Like you say, it conforms to type. But it's very small, see it here with two normal sized examples from the same general type.
Any guess why/for which reason? Child size? Jimat?

Regards,
Detlef

Inside scabbard 22 cm, 18 cm without and a blade from 11,2 cm.

It was indeed a very difficult quiz when there were no measurements given.

However, for what?

Saturday night special.

Worn under the jacket.

Were these primarily stabbing weapons?

Yes.
