Middle Eastern Dagger for comment
 

Just picked this up at a local Auction House. The hilt style says "Syrian" but I have not seen a straight blade on these before. Also quality is MUCH better with a very nice silver Niello scabbard, and prolific Mother of Pearl inlays on the hilt.
Can anyone tell me please:
1.Where it comes from.
2.The translation of the Arabic on the small hilt cartouche, and on the blade.
Dimensions are 12 1/2" in scabbard.
6 1/4" blade

I believe it is Lebanese. One of the better examples.

As made with the point of a kindjal by a Middle East circassian bladesmith.

I like it a lot Stu, nice find, certainly some ethnic crossovers there but I believe it is all consistant with geography and trade routes.

If I remember correctly, Artzi taught us that this style comes from the Druze village atthe Golan Mountains, named Majjal Shams ( Sun Tower).
The "kindjal" type of the blade and the nielloed scabbard are very interesting. Indeed, there are quite a lot of Circassians in the area.

it's my ... imagination :rolleyes: push me to said "SCANDRIANI"
(the guy coming from Alexandria ...
but there are plenty cities, towns, villages named Alexandria, not just in Egypt, but in Syria, in Turkey, may be in Iraq ... ;)

... I know, all that it's not much helpful :o
specially, to translate what is on the blade ... :(
