Finally A Junggayan Datu Kris Sword

I've always wanted a junggayan ivory-hilt datu sword for my collection but it has always been very hard to find one and even harder to get one with a complete pommel and a scabbard. I was lucky enough to finally obtain one, although I spent more than what I intended to. But this type of sword always command top dollar anyway among Moro swords so I guess there would have been no other way. It measures 31 inches in length. Here are pictures from the seller while I await its arrival. Comments are most welcome. Thanks.

Nice example. The yellow bands are gold washed silver. Great to have the ivory intact. I wonder if the later brass covering on the scabbard is hiding damage. From what I can see the from the pictures, this could be Maguindanao.

The blade needs a polish and an etch, and the scabbard needs some repairs.

Congratulations on finding such a complete example with a scabbard!

Thanks Jose, this was the junggayan kris I told you about that I was eyeing. Kinda hit the wallet hard but that's one off the bucket list now. How old do you think this sword is? I will have the scabbard restored once the sword arrives here in NZ.

Hello A,

Congrats, nice hilt for sure!

I’d guess at 19th c. - any closeup of the base of the blade for verification?

Regards,
Kai

Thanks Kai. I have not received the sword yet and these are the only images available from the seller. I will post pictures of the blade once I get it.
