this is a friend of mine's keris, and he got it from someone from 1942

any opinion on the dress and the blade ?

I'd vote for Madura, a variant of the bird motif (and associated hilt type):

the owner merely wanted to know more about this blade he kept since 1946 (not 1942, my mistake)

Provenance in private collections reaching back 70 years is certainly rare - really no info surviving for this keris?

BTW, I'd also believe the blade to be from Madura. However, I just recently burned my hands, so better wait for confirmation by folks with deeper knowledge in things Jawa/Java/Madura... ;)
