Naval Boarding Axes

My article on The British Naval Boarding Axe is finished and has now been published in the Arms and Armour journal of the Royal Armouries Museum.

I'd like to thank all those collectors who contributed with their knowledge and details of axes in their collections.

It is not a widely circulated magazine but I do have a limited number of free links to give away which also allows a download of the article.
Anyone interested in a free link please PM me and I'll send you one.

My next project is to improve the information on American boarding axes so if you have one in your collection - please PM me.

The article can be found at

An exceptional and thorough article, David! Thank you for posting it here for us 'sea-fairers'! In regards to your next article on the American types, be sure to check out Hartzler's book on American tomahawks and trade axes. There is a section in that volume covering the development of the boarding ax, with pics of the three distinct U.S. patterns. Good luck and looking forward to seeing the next published article!

Hi all,

I still have a handful of links to this article on British Boarding axes which allows a free download - anyone interested pm me.

I am also looking for collectors of naval weapons with US boarding axes to contribute to a study. Especially those with with 1797 or 1812 models.
Please pm me if you have one.
Thanks,

David.
