Hello, are you familiar with this makers mark on the blade of this sword? And what is the reason for the round shaped missing part of metal near the handle?

Hi eftihis,

I can't help you with the mark, but I think the notch is a choil that facilitates sharpening the whole length of the blade.

It could be a 19 century taje on 17century battle karabela.
About notch, some swords had that for finger pinch, beter controling, but here it is strange.
It doesent look to be 17 or 18 century original karabela.
