ID of African (?) long spear point

Dear group / fellow collectors,

I recently at a local auction found this very long spear point, which I guess is of African origin. I am not familiar with African arms and therefore would be very happy for any information about the possible origin and age.

Full length: 79 cm
Socket length: 16 cm
Blade length: 63 cm

There is an interesting detail/reinforcement/structure at the beginning of the blade.

Please see the attached photos

Best regards

Kasper

African Spears are well represented on the web... Please see https://www.google.com/search?q=afri...w=1366&bih=662

Thank you! A new interesting area of study :-)
I was hoping that someone here might be able to recognize the type and thus maybe narrow the ID down to region/area or even more.

Hi,

Here were several discussions about this kind of spear. I cannot find all the links - just one.

It is, most probably, comming from the North Nigeria.

I agree Martin, this appears to me to be another example of a well made cavalry lance, design for use on horseback within the Islamic emirates of Northern Nigeria or the Bornu Empire.

Both the size and construction are consistent with other examples, a very nice piece! Similar lances can occasionally still be seen in parades and palace events within tradition emirates in northern Nigeria or Cameroon.

Thanks to all! I really appreciate the information!
