Another silvery kampilan

Happy Memorial Day weekend!
while jose's silver kampy (http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17237) wears a one piece suit, this particular kampilan is ready for the summer; sporting a two piece instead, or multiple piece, however you wanna call it. what i found interesting is the lightness of this sword. it's light enough to be a one hand sword. missing are the hair. the wood used to make the handle has an unusual sheen to it. not sure what type it is, but it gives the illusion of a turtle shell. real nice contrast. enjoy!

Nice piece Spunjer, and great description....maybe you should announce for a modeling runway!

Interesting piece. What period would you date it to?? The blade seems like an older style. Do you think the silver work is original and born with the hilt, or a later addition??

I wouldn't worry about the hair(like I don't :D )...I have seen several period photos...on here, in fact...of Moros with kampillans with empty holes for a plume. That seems to suggest that even though a kampillan may have been made "plume ready", they were not always used, though this one seems to have remnants of it.

What a lovely kamp! Congrats and thanks for sharing this. This one is the most complete of these partially silver covered ones I have seen.

Is the blade etched and laminated?

Charles asks a good question ( ).

I do love kamping! :D

charles, i don't see anything to suggest that it the silver ornaments were added after. IMHO, it was born together. agewise; not too keen about kampilans, but i would guess it to be around late 1800's

WOW  Another great looking kampilan. If anymore silver shows up I'm going to have to start wearing shades to keep from hurting my eyes.

You're welcome Detlef! If you're ever in Ohio, you might wanna try Ceasar's Creek Flea Market first. It just might save ya from visiting all the flea markets, lol. ;)
