We do not see many of these here. I have just pick this, watched it for a long time. Finally offered at a price I can go with. These do not seem to offered to collectors as much as other Pacific Island clubs. This new club is 30 inches long 4 inches wide undulating edges. I have one 39 inches long 3,1/4 inches wide with straight edges. There looks to be some minor damage to edges but I do not think a problem. This link has several example of Truk clubs {shorter} all made of a different wood. Mine appear to be made from a palm woods a light and dark palm wood.

Once here I can made further assessment. Also some pictures of other palm wood examples from Sudsee Oasen, Leben und Uberleben im Westpazifik, Linden museum Stuttgart.

This example is basically the same size.http://collections.peabody.yale.edu/...YPM-ANT-143607

i love coconut wood, dense, heavy, hard, beautiful & great for clubs. i have a filipino sword club in bahia coconut wood (and some bowls and mugs :)) love the grain patterns.

THIS THREAD HAS SOME GOOD INFO AND EXAMPLES OF THIS TYPE OF CLUB. THEY SHOW UP EVERY SO OFTEN BUT ARE VERY SELDOM OLD EXAMPLES. I AM GLAD YOU GOT IT FOR A REASONABLE OFFER AS MANY ITEMS ARE BEING GREATLY OVERPRICED ON EBAY AND JUST KEEP RUNNING FOREVER.

yes, there are STILL a number of them there at silly prices, new and old, that have hovered there for a while now.

i've seen ones in bad condition for too much get sold then re-appear at 3 or more times the original price. frequently with descriptions that are far from reality.

there are occasionally gems in the muck pile tho.

as in all things, caveat emptor.

this site is a good reference that has kept me from buying a number of items (and take a punt on the occasional one i couldn't find any obvious info here on ;))

p.s. - the filipino club i show above was from a martial arts dealer here in the UK & quite cheap as well as being newly made. tomorrow's antique :)
