Philippines Visayan Dagger

Finally got around to taking some pics of my Visayan Dagger I won off eBay about a year or so ago. The seller on eBay posted this up as a Japanese WWII dagger. Stating in the description his grandfather killed a Japanese solder and took it off him...so he believed it to be from Japan. I won this auction for $10US(no one else bid on this item). I always planned on posting it but never got around to it since it was nothing really spectacular or out of the ordinary. But after seeing Roberts great under-the-radar collection, I'll post this one up for reference. This dagger is very basic overall and just simple; but definitely the style and design of the Visayas region. If anyone can provide more details on this dagger, please let me know. I have no idea which specific place or the name of this type of knife would be called. Sorry for the poor camera skills. :)

Interesting piece. Wood seems to be from the inner part of the narra tree.

dimasalang, thanks for the pics!

hiking in bohol in the visayas one day, i've seen a sundang with such a similar fish tail-looking scabbard (pic attached).

in this post where i mentioned about an anthropology professor citing the possible explanation for the bronze inlays in certain blades, the prof said that is his home province in panay, we can also see such characteristic fish tail-shaped scabbard tips. i can't remember now whether he said it was aklan or capiz province.
