Sana Knives??
 

Anyone know anything about Sana Knives? They make all sorts of fancy damascus folders and fixed blades. Claim they are US made, but I think from my Googling that they are actually made in Yemen. Any info appreciated.
Many of the styles on their website (not Ebay or Etsy) are classic Arab styles.

Probably, but their company name is "Sana".
You can check them out on Ebay or Etsy.
If you Google them, you will get lots of pictures of
Yemeni knives, etc.

Look Indian made to me. & cheaply at that.

If not. then American knife "craftsmanship" has gone badly down hill. :eek:

hmmm….i'm not sure why you guys are seeing a lot of Yemeni knives. They look mostly like custom folders and there are a ton of variations.
I can't fully speak to the craftsmanship without the knife in hand, but i actually find many of them quite attractive. :shrug: :)
How ever, i do question whether these fall under the category of "Ethnographic" and wonder if these are the kind of things we discuss around here. :shrug:

I thought some of their folders were sort of neat, but then I started
wondering that no US company would hand craft damascus knives
with all that fancy cut work for those prices, so I Googled Sana
and under images I got lots of Yemeni pics. So I figured they
were "ethnographic". If you disagree, feel free to delete this thread.

Rich, did you click on the link to any of those Yemeni knives that appear in that link? I believe they turned up in your search because of their connection to Sana'a, not because they are made by Sana Cutlery. I actually browsed through all 25 pages of knives that Sana offers on Etsy and none of them are traditional Yemeni knives. I will leave it to the mods on this side of the fence to decide whether custom folders are fair game for discussion here, but i don't think i would classify any of Sana Cutlery's product as being particularly "ethnographic".
If you are still really curious about their origin of manufacture you can ask them that question directly through their Etsy site. There is also a phone # on their Facebook page, but when i called it i only got an answering machine. :shrug:

These look a lot like Pakistani knives.

Well gentlemen, I think that this discussion has come to an end as mass produced folders do not really fall into the category of the Ethnographic weapons that would normally be discussed on this forum. Therefore I am closing this and would suggest that if anyone would like to continue please do so by Private Messaging.
