During my short stay in Amsterdam later, in the end of this month, I am eager to see again, the Tropen Museum. Especially, its keris collection.. How is it like now? Are there more "keris places" worth to see in this Netherlands capital? Thank you, in advance...

The tropenmuseum is really nice to hang out. A lot of the Dutch colonialism can be see there.
Also a cool New Guinea exposition they have there.

But be aware that from the huge online database they have, only a tip is exhibited for public.
But if you also like tribal art, it is really a great museum.....

You can also go to the antique district of Amsterdam. You have to be in the area around the "Spiegelgracht". There are a lot of galleries, where you also can find some tribal art. Nice to see, but for me impossible to buy things there because of the high prices......

would you be kind to take some photograph from the museum? the photograph of kerises ofcourse.

My last visit I made some images from the museum!
Not that good because of the little light, not allowing flashlight, and the glass which is in front of the pieces.......but images are tolerable...

@Maurice, thanks a lot for your info. Do kerises in this 'collections online' are still exhibited? Nice balinese keris, and also -- if I'm not mistaken -- a Riau keris. Photos of people wearing kerises are also interesting...

Yes, it is allowed, but no flashlight!

I started a thread with pictures of weapons I made, which are exhibited for public in the Tropenmuseum.
I made the thread in the "Ethnographic Weapons" section, because there are also other pieces as kerisses to admire, which forumites who collect other edged weapons would like to see.

Really, excellent collections of Tropenmuseum. Thanks a lot, for your kindness. A couple of almost similar kerises you may see also at the collection of Museum Gajah, or National Museum of Jakarta in Indonesia. (Some of the Sumatran kerises now are exhibited at Singapore Civilization Museum, until October 2010. I think Kai Wee and Alamshah could tell us, the "Sumatran Exhibition" there too...)

Really like to see the Tropenmuseum collection, soon....

The thing is maybe like other museums too, the Tropenmuseum only have maybe 1 to 2% of what they have on display in the museum. Personaly i totaly disslike that, but what have i to say about that?

I found interesting story on this interesting Charles Knaud's kris... The images of "wayang" in the bottom part of the blade reminds me to some reliefs of Sukuh and Cetho temples in the eastern part of Solo, Central Java. The specific wayang reliefs dated back to the end of Majapahit era...

How long do you stay here in Holland? Traveling from city to city doesn't take much time here. After all Holland is a small country. Japanese tourists do Europe in 2 weeks and Holland in 1 day :D

Not as that small Henk, I think... Eight days, but with quite a lot of activities. I don't know yet, if I have much free time to "keris sight seing' in Holland. Tomorrow, hopefully will be there. Thanks Henk. I will contact Michel Ab (kulbuntet), Marcel (Max) and you as soon as I am in Holland...

The collections of kerises on display at Tropenmuseum, are really great. Although -- according to a source -- only about 5 persen among tens of museum's collection are on display. And yes, one of the most unique piece is the Knaught keris on the first floor...

Unfortunately, one of the best known keris museum curator Mr David van Duuren is not there anymore since two months ago. The museum said, Mr Van Duuren has been retired from his old job. I could not find or contact this gentleman.

Thanks to you, Hans Voys (the silent member of this warung?) for helping me to get there, and of course to Kulbuntet or Michel AbdulRahman Van't Hoff who are staying not far from the museum...

Ditto.. perhaps time to visit Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) again.. to drool at the, "Sumatra: Isle of Gold" keris exhibits, etc.. :D

Drool, too Kai Wee. Once I saw the "nagasasra" at the Civilization Museum last year....
September? Oktober? When will the exhibition end?
