Cannon ball fragments

Hi All
Fernando you mentioned you have no fragment in your collection (if I read you correctly in the previous post)

As a follow on from a recent thread on cannon balls here are some images of the fragments from when they explode.

As you can see in the crosssections the crystalline nature of the cast iron can be seen.

They are sizable chunks of approx 15 cm and would definitely do some damage.

You can see on one of the images the fragment has the touch hole remaining

Wall thickness 25 mm and 20 mm

Both pieces came from rural Ireland, near Galway.

Thanks for caring, Ken.
Mind you, i have no fragments in my collection but have already seen a few; although i didn't take any pictures of them, namely in the best of opportunities when i visit the Oporto Military Museum, where picture taking is free. The fragments over there are exhibited together with these bar and chain shots.
