Here is a perfect solution to what was likely a broken sword(note the fullers run off the tip of the blade). This was probably a kirach, and has been converted into a European style hanger.

The quality of the blade and hilt certainly warrant the "recycling".

Beautiful piece Charles, and well observed....this would seem to be the Indian version of a dirk :) We do of course know that broken European blades, or in fact cut down blades were used in the katar, so it is not hard to imagine this course being taken as well.
