Hello Rama,

Thanks for posting this very nice badik and joining the ranks of active forum members - welcome!

I apologize for us being so slow to respond to your first thread; I hope others will chime in as well.

Well, its origin is obviously an old Dutch collection! ;)

I'm sure the blade is an above average quality Bugis blade - very probably from Sulawesi.

I'm less sure about the fittings though. The rattan wrap is unusual - looks genuine and old though; the silver work on the scabbard resembles most closely a style seen with some keris from Sumatra.

What can you tell us about it? What is the perspective of a native Makassarese, I assume?

Regards,
Kai

Hi Kai,

thanks for the comment.... yes, you're right, I got this from one of the "Dutch" auction site :)

the blade are Bugis, from "LUWU" origin/style, with Pamor kalla (Pamor kalam)(eng: PEN)

But this type of BADIK spread in almost nusantara archipelago, specially in Java and Sumatra....

and maybe, like you said... the scabbard silver carved has similarity with Sumatra work.

Thanks again Kai.
