Persian or Turkish Dagger...

5 Attachment(s)
or could it be from somewhere else?
Far from my area of interest but took it on a trade because I liked the blade.
Is there a specific name for this type of blade where it’s notched near the hilt.
It came with a document that translated the Arabic inscription.
Can someone help with the daggers origin?
The sheath looks like a military type, maybe it doesn’t even belong together.

Thanks in advance.

I am sure the blade is Turkish: see "turkish ribbon". Quite old: 1164H, ie. 1750-51 Gregorian ( old means older than me).

I am not sure about the handle: looks more European than Ottoman. But then it could be a replacement, and would fit with the scabbard.

You're right, Ariel. Well-made old Ottoman blade dated 1164 (1750/51 c.e.)mounted in Europe.

Ahhhh..Turkish. Ariel, thank you, I was staring at the indicator all along. I’ve seen photos of Yataghan’s with Turkish ribbon blades but my brain didn’t make the connect.

Oliver, thanks for confirming the date and the European mounts.

Could this have made from a cut down or damaged yataghan blade?

M-m-m-m....

Doubt it.
Classical curved or recurved yataghan blades started to tilt down literally within 10-15 cm ( often much less) from the hilt. Here the blade is straight for at least 30 cm.
Of course, this would not apply to the straight yataghan blades, but those were pretty rare.

I might look at the position of the turkish ribbon vs. the tip. Usually, there was some space between them. If it merges with the tip, you might have a point ( pun not intended).
