A Cuirassier Close Helmet

Just got this in and really love it! I know very little of armor. Can anyone assist with approximate age, area of origin, similar examples, etc? It obvisouly has a number of repairs. I tend to like similar items because they show their history. My 7 year old looked at it and said "what if it gives me nightmares". It does have an intimidating look. :D

Hello,
I really like this model, it's beautiful, around 1600. Very old repairs, maybe even from the time !

Hello Casey, the fine close helmet you have is indeed a close helmet for cuirassiers used during the 80 years war. It's from the first half of the 17th C, probably Dutch, but it can also be Flemish or German. Here is a similar helmet in the National military Museum of the Netherlands, Soest.
kind regards
Ulfberth

Thanks for the info and other example. They look like they could be twins.

Another similar helmet from the armour worn on the funeral of Michiel De Ruyter in 1677 , the description from the museum reads , armour anno between 1600 and 1625.
