Hello Carlos,

what a beauty! Congrats to this very nice find. The stylized flower with the four leaves remember to a motif you can find on many items from the Moluccas. Look for example this shield from my collection.

Regards,

Detlef

Maurice 18th April 2011 08:06 PM

Congrats Carlos!
What a nice Kampilan. A real beauty with those carved decorations everywhere.
This must be a very old one imo...

Maurice

I´m very happy to read your answers. The measures are total length 38 in and the hilt is near 10 in.

His provenance is from a wall plaque with sevaral edged weapons, 2 lance, 1 kris and 2 kampilan. Unfortunalely I never seen the others weapons.

Hi Carlos,

Ok thanks but that plaque must have hung somewhere, europe or USA? Spain?
a specific house maybe ?
For very scarce items like this it should be enourmous if there was more info...

Arjan

Spain, it was a wall plaque in a old house, the seller told me that he had seen the wall plaque all his life.
thanks
carlos

Lovely !

Certainly looks like a ceremonial piece that would be borne by a Datu's retainer .

This looks pretty old judging from the wormholes .

Carlos, wow, magnífico! :) Muchas gracias, for sharing the pics!

Spunjer 20th April 2011 04:02 AM

Thank you carlos! Does the previous owner has picture of the lances and kris that was with this kampilan? Just wondering if they were moro or indo...

kai 21st April 2011 09:38 AM

Congrats, Carlos - that's gorgeous! Are you going to etch the blade?

BTW, looks Moro to me.

Regards,
Kai

I have only this picture.

Spunjer 21st April 2011 07:30 PM

Thanks carlos.. reason i asked is, normally estate finds have this tendency to group what little collection they have, and most likely, it all belongs to the same country. going by that, the lance looks indonesian, hence the kampy could be indonesian (borneo) as well?
