I have found this 'tusk' in my deceased father's house whilst clearing it . I am pretty sure its fake but just would appreciate opinions , as I dont want to find myself breaking any of the recent laws. It is 45 cm long with an average diameter of 60 mm. It weighs 2 kg. I have attached some pictures including a cross section of a recently sawn off cross section ... ignore the blue marks , they came off the saw blade . Thank you.

Yup, that clearly looks like resin/plastic. Do a hot needle test or just hold a flame to an edge...

Regards,
Kai

Yes I agree but I can make no impact on it even with a red hot needle , and it seems very heavy for resin.

That may be due to lots of mineral filler.

The developing smoke should have some kind of plastic smell though (vs. the smell at a dentist when drilling a tooth)...

Kai

hello,

first of all, the tusk should be hollow at that point (base!).
And the little holes give it away, as a resin copy.
They are due to air bubbles. Something you get if you do not pay attention on the job...
So in fact it is; a sloppy made copy...
