Omani Khanjar

Salam alaikam,

Hello everyone, I bought this khanjar from a friend when I was in Muscat a few years ago. Im not sure how old it is, or which parts of it are old, or more recent additions: I know that these daggers are often repaired and added to over time.

Perhaps some of our Omani experts could help me find out what region this style is from.

I am also wondering if the blade is a modern replacement, as it is so crudely made.

Best regards

Please see The Omani Khanjar. at http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=14878

As you rightly point out a lot of replacements are not unusual in Omani Khanjars where most of the visible parts can be switched … In this case you have a cowhorn hilt on the usual array of silver worked plate and stitched silver over leather throughout and a button with the Omani Crest on it suggesting made after 1970 when HM Sultan Qaboos took power.
