A pawn shop purchase with no info. Seem to be Asian Pacific Islander...but from where and when? Thanx for any help with this one.

Okay, let's see if I did the photos right this time.

The scabbard looks Western Indonesian to me, and I would call it a small golok. Looks recent in manufacture. There are others here who can give you a better read and I look forward to hearing what they have to say.

Placing modern pieces can be a tough call since the makers often don't adhere to traditional patterns anymore.

Let's hope we find a close match with provenance sooner or later...

Kai

there was a golok posted some time ago with better characteristics in general but with a similar general shape of the blade and hilt

http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25540

OP here has a cruder , perhaps very much newer, and smaller version

Sorry, the blade shape and also the hilt are completely different!

The piece in question is a golok for sure but to pin down the exact origin will be very difficult. But it's for sure relative recent.

Detlef

milandro 16th March 2023 10:21 PM
