Dear members,

I wanted to show you this small axe,

Forged steel of good quality ,
Battle model ? Massive but sharp axe edge
Nice sponton spike , ( reminds me a tomahawk...)

I wonder how old it can be,
Too fancy ??
It can be 19th century based on earlier models,
Or an early axe head with later ''suns'' decos and a later shaft ( old but maybe not original )

Total length: 55cm,
axe head length:21cm

Thank's a lot for your message and picture !
Not easy to say/date without a date/ makers mark on the blade...
Here two similars I found on internet:
The first was sold as a 16th-17th century possibly ottoman crescent axe , pictures from Mandarin Mansion .
The second a strange undated axe covered with snake skin.
a motley mix who doesn't seems old, origin ??..
The blade seems of lower quality but really looks like...

The reptile skin, most likely monitor, is associated with weapons from Sudan. Persian weapons were popular in Sudan and often imitated. Your axe however may also be from India, like Sindh for example.
