A good honest pair of late Ching Shuang Jian.

Here is a comparison of some smaller Duan Jian styles...

A mid 19th century example, stored within the same late Ching scabbard which you've presented your pair. Similar sword where length is concerned, although more elegant in hand.

Next to it, the more typically know type in painted timber veneer.

But, what is of real interest is this extemelly hefty example, clearly from the same factory/guild.... but has the appearance in size and supported by its weight as being akin to the short executioner Jian infamously portrayed in historical images.
