Congrats on a nice addition to your collection Sajen.
Is the hilt carved from bone or antler?

Hello Albert,

Thank you as well! I can't answer your question, I've asked the seller but he was completely clueless, the picture from up on the handle was sent to me on request.
He has posted only one picture by the online auction with the sword inside the scabbard, all other pictures I received on request. ;):D:D

Detlef

Congrats, Detlef, that's a neat piece!

I can't offer any positive ID - the nice blade is quite special. Also the carved hilt is very nice.

I can see why you consider it possibly exhibiting Malay influence. I'd suggest to also have a very close look at the greater Sunda region (including southern Sumatra), too.

The scabbard seems to be a later replacement and may not offer much help in placing this piece.

Please post some more close-ups when you receive it!

Regards,
Kai

Thank you Kai! :) Maybe in hand I can tell more.

Yes, a Malay influenced region on Sumatra could be also possible.

I am not sure about this. The pictures can be cozen, I've removed the original background, see the original picture.

Congratulations Detlef! I can't help much with origins of this golok, but it is an impressive piece that i would be more than happy to have in my own collection. Looking forward to more photos when you receive it.

Stunning and rather unique! Congratulations on a fine find.

Sumatra/Kedah relations, these are my first thoughts...

Hello David, Jose and Gav,
Thank you! :)
I have received it in the meanwhile and it's a beautiful piece in hand. I am nearly sure that the scabbard is original to the blade. After it has received a little bit of TLC I will post pictures.

Regards,
Detlef
