Indonesian knife

I received a knife from Surabaya, Indonesia. Attached are some photos. The knife has some Arabic? Etching inscribed on the sides of the blade. The two sides have different characters. I attempted to photograph and capture the writing. I also tried a charcoal rubbing and photographed the sheet. Would anyone care to tell me more about this knife, level of quality (i.e. tourist piece) and / or should I attempt to improve its appearance, if so how? I sincerely appreciate the input I have received from this fantastic site.

This much I can say, the Arabic and lines on the blade are not from different metals but made from wax etching the blade. This is usually done for easier sale on the market. No real lamination's that I can see.

I agree with Jose’s assessment - a modern piece. An etch will show whether the blade got hardened; probably not worth messing with though.

Kai
