Exhibiting modern forgeries and/or imitations does not add much to this thread. |

A nice suggestion but as this is a keris thread we are not allowed to do that. And as we have seen that Nias kerisses are as scarce as bad Dutch soccerplayers, I think this thread is almost completed.... :D |

Unless/until someone have a piece to debunk our current opinions. Here's a friend's piece, a single edge blade.. for comments. :) |

Gentlemen....when we first set up this forum a while back Rick and i discussed long and hard about what would be acceptable subject matter for discussion here. We decided that this would be a place solely for the discussion of keris. Even other Tosan aji like tombak is to be discussed in the main forum.
Hate me if you will, but i am closing this thread. If you guys want to pick up this discussion of other Nias weapons please feel free to do so on the main forum. Thanks for playing... ;) :) |

Alam Shah, Very interesting! This one seems to be bigger than the other examples.
Were these solely ceremonial or were these used, say, like a keris in terms of a dagger? What of the big ones? maybe they were also used like Kris Sundang depending on the size. Perhaps if they are ceremonial/ornamental then not at all. Either way, this is a very interesting development. This is a very great thread. Thanks to all who have contributed. I am not very familiar with Nias culture or blades (much less the rest of indonesia which I am still learning of!) |
