Hi Jim
I am posting a pic of the dha blade with the running tiger mark as per our discussion at Timonium. Maybe one of those Solingen sword smiths became stranded in Burma and substituted a tiger for the wolf? ;) :D

Hi Lew,
Thank you for posting that dha, as we discussed. Interesting thought that I had long forgotten about from quite some time ago. Andrew had noted this back in 2003 (thank you Nathaniel for the link), and we had felt no direct connection or association, but clearly the concept itself was sound.
I believe the tiger was totemic in Asia, much in the way the wolf was with the warriors from Roman times, through the middle ages in Europe to its eventual talismanic and commercial connotation.
As noted, the wolf really got around, so who knows where the Burmese got the idea !!? Good observation !
