Well, this is Maranao, mid to late 1800s, and perhaps ceremonial. Well preserved. Once had an iron or brass/bronze guard.

I don't know much about this type of sword, but I do like coins.
Can you get a closeup of the coin?

According to Cato, most of these with hair were used for ceremonial purposes.

Danny, nice kampilan! Thanks for sharing the photos.
Battara, I realize that discerning the features of a kampilan can be tricky ... i.e., for a beginner like moi :D
Yet on the other hand for somebody who's been at this for some time ... i.e., yourself :) the subtle features can easily be recognized.
Would you mind further sharing your thoughts on how the kampilan may have truly been a Maranao piece?
Thanks in advance! :)

Ok, well, here are 2 things that tell me it is Maranao:
a) the style of okir used is Maranao
b) the type of pommel form is Maranao (as opposed to that used in Borneo)
