Hi all here is the third mandau that I was able to include in my collection and I think that finally I have one of those Ben call REAL mandau, at least the sword seems an old one with nice carvings on handle and deep yellow patina. The scabbard seems, instead, more recent as the piso raout but both still nice. The carvings on the scabbard seem to be not finished and maybe recent. Can you tell me the origin (modang???)? All comments are really welcome :)

Hi Ben, if you allude at the concavity of the blade, well it's clearly present... but if you mean something else, tomorrow I will take a look... :)

Nice "REAL" Kayan mandau, congratulations.
Does the hilt have a face?

Ben, looking at the sword in the position you suggest me, I notice that the blade is not straight, but it's a bit bend toward the right. This bend starts circa at the middle, 3/4 of the length of the blade. See the picture
Thank you Michael :) Really I don't understand very well if all the pommel is a face but there are many small faces on it

Can you tell me the origin (modang???)? All comments are really welcome :)Hi Flavio,
As far as I know, they call mandaus with these kind of hilts (with this shape) "modang" mandaus, because they were find in the "modang" area of Borneo.
Maybe you can put the last picture in the "dayak parang face gallery" thread of Michael, Cause I see clearly a face.
