...this knife/shortsword - blade 12" - has a "fishtail" form scabbard, otherwise, usually identified as Tebu...

Is anyone familiar with the form?

Tebu for sure. Just a large dagger and a nice example.

NICE ONE IN GOOD SHAPE CONGRADULATIONS.
FOR A BIT OF CONJECTURE ON MY PART I THINK THE FISHTAIL IS THE OLDER TRADITIONAL WAY OF MAKEING THEM. THE NEWER ONES AND SOME OF THE OLDER ONES DO NOT HAVE THEM. IN SOME INSTANCES I THINK THE FISHTAIL WAS MORE EASILY DAMMAGED AND WAS LOST AND NOT REPLACED OR A NEW SCABBARD WAS MADE WITHOUT A FISHTAIL.

Here is one of mine which is very similar to yours but smaller. The other one pictured is large wide and heavy but it's not mine......yet. :)

That is a very nice dagger, the fishtail design for the scabbard is a first for me.
