European sword, for ID please?

Hello all,

Can I please request for help in identifying the sword, as to whether it's a repro or a real old piece?

I saw this in an antique shop and I was just wondering whether it deserves any further attention :)

It's a WWI era Austrian Army officer's (artillary?) sword. Well, that's the generic description of what it is. It's exact I'm not so sure about. Some of these types predate the war and go back slightly earlier (still in the timeline of Kaiser Wilhelm, circa 1900-1910). I've seen some listed as "Bavarian", some as Prussian and some Austrian. Perhaps someone can pinpoint this pattern down more exactly, but to answer your question, it isn't a repro but a real sword. They are fairly common and show up on eBay now and again...

Amongst "Bavarian", "Austrian", and "Prussian" keyword search on eBay, "Prussian sword" yielded the most number of items closest to the subject blade.

I believe this is referred to as the 1889 model. German and Austrian officer use thru WW1.

I agree with BBJW - this is a German "Infanterie Offiziers Degen" (IOD) M1889. To me the monogram on the hilt appears to be that of Kaisre Wilhelm, but I am not 100% sure about this. What is really interesting is how this sword made it to the PI?

The sword is really nice...just the way I like 'em...nicely patinated! and as well agreed , the German M1889.
But!......what bout those '45's !!!! :)
